Some Notes from Happy Campers

Value for Money!! Thank you so much Bryan and Miriam. We all have so many wonderful things to say about your hospitality and our stay at The Crossing & Erua Lodge. Our students have come back to Waima with many fond memories of their stay with you. Your catering is amazing. Where else would we be served Roast pork, crackling, gravy, apple sauce, roasted pumpkin, Potato, baby carrots, whole kernal corn, and a freshly tossed salad with apple crumble, custard and ice cream to follow? The following night – whole rump of beef roasted, grilled chicken pieces with another great selection of fresh vegies and salads!! This has to be the best accomodation on offer at a very affordable price!!! Once again thank you for a great stay.

Jenny Colebrook, Principal Waima Primary School.

What a great place to stay and play.  We will never forget our time at your pad, 1st time skiing and paintball for the kids.  This is a holiday they will never forget.  Unfortunately the boy got the better of me in the paintball arena, I even have the brusing to prove it (he won’t stand a chance net time!!)

Thanks heaps Miriam and Bryan for the lasting memories, can’t wait till our next visit.

The Crossing & Erua Lodge just does it so well.

We arrive for a three night camp and the kids are full of expectation this time as the word got around that the last two camps our school had here were AWESOME!

Bryan is laid back but doesn’t muck around when it comes to keeping kids safe. The students are quickly but gently taken out of their comfort zone and the words “outdoor education” take on new meaning for our students – the real meaning and purpose of outdoor ed is realised: adventure, recreation, extension, new horizons, action, aerobic exercise, mental testing and endurance, astronomy, archaeology, geology, science, history and sport science. All is done safely and the kids discover skills they never knew they had!

Bryan is the all round “good guy”. The kids adore him. The leaders are grateful that he likes kids and yet keeps a firm control on things when control is needed but takes his hands off when not needed. He recognises the need for balance! And what CAN’T he do??

Kite flying, building, relating to teenagers, archery, paintballing, cooking (oh I need to mention the fabulous meals he cooks too – roast dinners, thai green curries, spaghetti with flair, steak and salads to die for!) Bryan’s menu is always changing.

Miriam runs the show behind the scenes – i.e. keeps an eye on things but stays out of things too when she is not needed. Again, balance!

The two exude KINDNESS and a penchant for fun, novel ideas and good times! They are ideal camp hosts.

We are coming back next year for more – and longer too. 4 nights and five days! More of Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Tokaanu Hot pools, caving, glow worm viewing, flying fox, archery, kite flying, paintballing and next time KAYAKING!

Yes, they do it well. The lodge is comfortable, clean and nicely appointed. It has imagination and adventure written all over it, from the Lion the Witch and the WARDROBE DVD den to the building design and its location in Tongariro’s beautiful scenic playground. And our students love every minute of it! Well done guys and see you next year!

December 2008

Recently our team of 15 students, including myself and 3 teachers stayed at the well known Crossing & Erua Lodge. Our time at the awesome camp was packed full of exciting and adrenaline pumping fun activities that helped us all bond closer together.

You would never expect such an awesome lodge to be practically right at the foot of the North Island’s highest mountain. The views were absolutely fantastic everywhere we ventured. Caving, paintball, off-road go carting , tramping and archery are just a few of the activities our whole crew took part in.

The food was fantastic. If you’re into hearty sized home cooked meals then this is the place to be. There is nothing better after a 7 hour tramp but to sit down and tuck into a roast of pork.

We all had a fantastic time, the staff were great and I’m sure I speak for all of us in saying I wish the camp went for way longer!!!

Thanks so much for the absoulutly amazing stay we had in August. The kids had ‘the trip of their lives’ & we have a lot to thank you for. Your relaxed, yet firm manner ensured our stay was smooth & we apologise for anything that went wrong!! Cheers again, we are already looking forward to next year!!

If you are looking for somewhere to stay with a school group, whether it be skiing at Whakapapa or Turoa, tramping in the National Park or as a base for any number of educational trips The Crossing & Erua Lodge should be your first call. Each year we have been here the facilities have been improved and the ‘service’ has continued to get better. The owners Miriam and Bryan have been an absolute pleasure to deal with and the center manager, Mike is always willing to assist in anything.

I cannot compliment them enough and they have made each and every trip an absolute pleasure. The lodge provides everything and school group can ask for:

Food of the most excellant quality & quantity.
A range of fully central heated accomodation.
Evening entertainment to keep the students happy.
Total value for money.

I have no hesitation in saying the Erua Lodge is the best school accomodation I have used and would recommend it unreservedly.

Dear The Crossing & Erua Lodge

Thank you for letting us stay in your lodge. It was great to watch movies in your movie room it was very cool.

We also like the dinner and breakfast it was delicious and the lunches you made for us.

The pool table was wonderful, we must hav spent about 50 dollars on it and the air hockey was also a highlight.

The animals were cute and cool as well.

Once again thank you for a very relaxed stay

To Bryan and the team.

Back in Tauranga with the rain still pattering down on the roof, when will it end we wonder. However despite the unfortunate weather, we had a great stay at The Crossing & Erua Lodge & want to thank you most sincerely for being such great hosts. From a drivers point of view, everything went very smoothly really. You all looked after us so well. We were warm and cosy with the most fantastic meals thanks to Aarons mastery in the kitchen & you all made us feel very welcome & completely at home. Thank you so much indeed & as promised I will be spreading the word back here in Tauranga re the best lodge to stay when visiting the National Park area.

We had a good trip home pulling in to Mount Intermediate School dead on 4pm – loaded with the 70 odd trout caught at the Turangi Hatchery!

Thanks so much guys, Warmest regards, Max
